Optimist Club's weekly athletes

Alyssa Ukestad, Keelie Renwick, Lauren Sayler and Leighton Sampson were named Jamestown Optimist Club's athletes of the week.

Ukestad, a senior on the Blue Jay volleyball team, posted 11 kills, 23, digs and two aces against Bismarck Century.

Renwick, a freshman on the Blue Jay girls swimming and diving team, scored three varsity points at the Marney Shirley Invite, cutting over 24 seconds in the 200 and 500 free.

Sayler, a junior goalie on the Jimmie women's volleyball team from Bismarck, recorded eight saves in her fifth shutout of the season, as the Jimmies beat Bellevue 1-0.

Sampson, a senior on the Jimmie men's basketball team from Worthington, Minn., scored 47 points, shot 17-of-27 from the field, 9-of-14 from the foul line and grabbed 19 rebounds in two wins over Brandon University.

E-E-K fifth in final poll

Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm (7-1) is ranked fifth in the final Class A football media poll of the 2017 season.

Hillsboro-Central Valley is at the top, with Langdon, Velva and Dickinson Trinity all receiving at least one first-place vote. E-E-K hosts Harvey-Wells County (4-4) in Edgeley on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round of the state playoffs.
