Optimist Club honors athletes
Olivia Nihill, Alexis Triebenbach, Bryn Woodside and Jackson Schauer were named Jamestown Optimist Club's athletes of the week.
Nihill, a senior defensive specialist on the Blue Jay volleyball team, had her best match of the season in a win against Bismarck. She had 16 digs, served 100 percent and posted a near-perfect serve-receive score of 2.91.
Triebenbach, a senior diver on the Blue Jay girls swimming and diving team, placed seventh at the WDA to lead the Jays on the diving board.
Woodside, a senior guard on the Jimmie women's basketball team from Albert Lea, Minn., scored 25 and 28 points in wins over Northwestern (Iowa) and Dordt College. She shot 47 percent from the field, while averaging 5.7 assists and 2.3 steals.
Schauer, a sophomore on the Jimmie men's wrestling team from Grand Rapids, Minn., went 6-0 for the weekend and won the Jimmie Open.
Girls volleyball program planned
Jamestown Parks and Recreation is organizing a winter grades 1-4 girls volleyball program.
The six-week program will be held Saturday mornings in Dec. (2nd, 9th, 16th) and Jan. (6th, 13th, 20th) at the Two Rivers Activity Center. Registrations have been distributed to schools and are also available at www.jamestownparksandrec.com or at 1002 2nd Ave. SE.
The deadline to register is Nov. 22. Cost is $20 per person prior to the deadline and $30 after. For questions, call John at 252-4320 or 252-3982.
