Local figure skaters perform

The James River Figure Skating Club competed in the 26th annual Granite City Classic on Nov. 10-11 in St. Cloud, Minn.

James River's nine skaters competed in 27 events and earned 28 trophies, including 13 first-place trophies.

Club member Hannah Jorgenson (Novice) placed first in artistic, second in short program and first in spins, first in jumps and second in moves in free skate. Kaitlin Mullowney (Intermediate) placed third in short program, third in artistic and first in free skate.

Emma Bennett (Juvenile) placed sixth in compulsory, second in artistic and sixth in free skate. Karla Sherfy (Pre-Juvenile) placed third in compulsory, second in artistic and first free skate.

McKenna Becker (Pre-Preliminary) placed fourth in compulsory, first in artistic and fourth in free skate. Brooke Graalum (Pre-Preliminary) placed first in compulsory, second in artistic and first in free skate.

Synneva Sortland (Pre-Preliminary) placed second in compulsory, first in artistic and first in free skate. Terese Kolden (Beginner) placed first in compulsory, third in artistic and fourth in free skate, and Avery Graves (Beginner) placed first in compulsory, third in artistic and second in free skate.

A total of 303 skaters comprising 29 separate clubs were in attendance at the Granite City Classic. Mark Vararhelyi is the coach of the James River Figure Skating Club.
