Post 14 collects win in Aberdeen

Post 14’s offense came to life with wood bats on Friday.

Jamestown banged out 11 hits en route to a 6-2 win over Beulah at a tournament in Aberdeen.

Tyler Ukestad went all seven innings on the mound and also had a pair of hits in the first of four games in South Dakota.

“It’s always nice to score some runs early, especially in a wood bat tournament,” said Jamestown Legion coach Shane Schoeneberg. “We’ve been talking with the guys at lot about their approach at the plate. Getting your pitch and not giving away at bats no matter what the score or the count is. Keep grinding away and it seemed to sink in today and hopefully it continues that way.”

Ukestad allowed just four hits and struck out eight in a strong performance on the mound. He walked just one batter.

Ukestad also got Post 14 on the board first with an RBI triple in the bottom of the third inning. They made it 2-0 in the fourth and 5-0 in bottom of the fifth with three consecutive two-out hits.

“We had a lot of guys contribute today, not just with hits, but with the quality of their at bats,” Schoeneberg said.

Beulah got its only two runs in the top of the sixth.

“Tyler pitched really well and Joey (Gebhardt) called a good game,” Schoeneberg said. “It was the type of game we think this team is capable of we just need to do it more consistently.”

Landon Weiser, Gebhardt and Nick Fuchs were each 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Connor Neva had a hit and RBI. Scott Nelson tripled.

Post 14 (2-7) plays Breckenridge, Minnesota today at 2:15 p.m., and the Aberdeen Smittys at 7. They wrap up the weekend trip against Warner, South Dakota on Sunday at 10 a.m.
