Kratz cracks walkoff winner

Andrew Nohrenberg through on a swing

Jamestown Post 14 avoided a winless home tournament with a walkoff victory on Sunday.

Nolan Kratz capped a huge game with a two-out, two-run double to finish off Jamestown’s 8-7 win over Fargo Post 400 at the Phil Brown Classic. It was the conclusion of Friday night’s game that was halted in the third inning due to stormy weather.

Kratz finished just a triple short of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs. He clubbed a tworun homer in the fifth inning to knot the game at 5-all.

Down 7-5, Ryder Lunzman singled and Andrew Nohrenberg doubled to start the bottom of the seventh. Oscar Weber walked to load the bases before pinch-hitter Tommy Falk was hit with a pitch to cut the deficit to one (7-6).

Fargo Post 400 pitcher John Kennedy retired the next two batters with the lead intact, but Kratz ripped the first pitch he saw into the right-field corner to end it.

Dawson Douty, Chris Erickson, Ben Friebel, Lunzman and Nohrenberg each had two hits in the win.

Jamestown totaled 11 hits in the win, two more than its combined total in Saturday’s 8-0 and 12-3 losses to the Moorhead Blues and Gillette, Wyo.

Up next for Post 14 is a home doubleheader against Grand Forks on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
