Basketball Roundup: Jays sweep Spartans

Mason Walters' double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds helped lift Jamestown High School boys basketball to a 61-51 victory Saturday at Fargo North.

The Blue Jays led 29-24 at the half and outpaced the Spartans 32-27 after the break. Jamestown shot just over 40 percent from the field (23 of 56) and outrebounded the opposition 43-32.

John Horgan (15 points) and Ryder Lunzman (10) also reached double figures in scoring for the Blue Jays (3-4). Boden Skunberg filled the stat sheet with 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Jamestown High School girls basketball (3-4) also picked up a win at Fargo North, defeating the Spartans 66-47. Stats of Saturday's girls game was not provided to the Sun.

The sweep was Jamestown's second in a row over an Eastern Conference opponent. The Blue Jay boys defeated Valley City 78-52 at home on Dec. 28, with the girls defeating Valley 67-61.

Jamestown returns to West Region play tonight hosting Minot at Jerry Meyer Arena. The girls game beings at 5:45 p.m. with the boys to follow at 7:45.

Jimmies fall at NDSU

University of Jamestown men's basketball fell to North Dakota State 99-50 on Saturday at Scheels Center in Fargo.

The game was an exhibition for the Jimmies and did not count toward the team's season record. The Bison, however, improved to 8-6 with the victory.

NDSU hit 12 3-pointers and shot close to 60 percent from the field, while outrebounding the Jimmies 44-25. Jon Purintun led the way for Jamestown with 12 points and three assists.

The Jimmies (11-5) host Oak Hills Christian College (Minn.) tonight at 7 p.m. at Harold Newman Arena.
