Jimmies earn NSAA honors

University of Jamestown senior point guard Bryn Woodside was selected the North Star Athletic Association's most valuable player and defensive player of the year in women's basketball Friday, Feb. 23, during the honors reception held at Harold Newman Arena.

University of Jamestown head coach Greg Ulland was selected women's NSAA coach of the year. Woodside was also named NSAA first-team all-conference, while senior wings McKayla Orr and Paige Emmel were named to the NSAA all-conference second team.

The Jimmies (29-4) will find out this week who they'll play March 7 in the opening round of the NAIA Division II women's basketball national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. The tournament's seeding will be announced Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m.

University of Jamestown men's basketball senior Leighton Sampson was honored as the NSAA's newcomer player of the year Saturday, Feb. 24. The 6-foot-6 Sampson was also selected NSAA first team all-conference, while junior guards guard Kevin Oberweiser and Jon Purintun were selected to the NSAA all-conference second team.

The Jimmie men (20-10) will be hoping to receive an at-large bid to the NAIA Division II men's basketball national tournament March 7-13 in Sioux Falls S.D. The tournament's seeding will be announced Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m.

Keller earns NSAA honor

University of Jamestown's Emma Keller was selected North Star Athletic Association women's softball player of the week.

The senior outfielder from Poulsbo, Wash., averaged .500 (8-for-16) with a triple, double, homer and nine RBIs to help the Jimmies to a 3-1 record at the North Star Crossover at the Presentation Dome in Aberdeen, S.D.

Keller drove in four runs in Jamestown's 11-3 victory over Dickinson State, and also drove in three to help the Jimmies top Presentation 8.5.
