Blue Jay Roundup: Hockey, wrestling, gymnastics compete

Blue Jay hockey sweeps

Jamestown High School girls hockey earned its first two points of the season in the statewide standings Saturday in Dickinson.

Tied at 1-1 after an eight-minute overtime, Blue Jay freshman Ella Roaldson buried a goal during a three-person shootout to send Jamestown home happy. Dickinson earned one point for its effort.

Roaldson scored both Jamestown goals. Erin Anderson made 54 saves for the Blue Jays, who moved to 2-9-1 overall on the season. The Jays host West Fargo United at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Fargo North/South/Shanley at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

"Erin Anderson had 53 saves, and you can't say enough about how much she kept us in that hockey game," Blue Jay coach Andy Fitzgerald said. "She was able to hold them to just one, which gave us a chance to win and that's what we did.

"This week we play two really good opponents and it'll be a good test for us to see how we stand up."

The Blue Jay boys topped Dickinson 2-1. Senior goalie Matthew Schneider stopped 37 of 38 shots faced for Jamestown.

The win puts the Blue Jays (7-4-0, 4-3-0 WR) in a three-way tie with Bismarck and Minot for the second spot in the West Region standings with 12 points. The boys travel to Mandan on Tuesday.
