Mewes, Gumke post 4-0 marks
Paxton Mewes and Eathan Gumke were dominant on a busy day on the mat for the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Mewes was light’s-out at 132 pounds, posting four consecutive pins, two in the first period and the other two in the middle frame.
Gumke won by fall twice, earned a major decision and got a win by forfeit in the Blue Jays’ second match.
Both Mewes, a sophomore, and the senior Gumke, are on track to surpass 100 career wins during the season. Mewes is up to 94 while the top-ranked 195-pounder in Class A Gumke has 90.
Team-wise Saturday, the Blue Jays defeated United Clay Becker (Minn.) 51-17, but fell to Brainerd-Pillager (54-24), Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (62-10) and Moorhead (60-12).
Jakob Browning (138), Caleb Ellingson (170) and Triston Shipley (182) were each 2-2 on the day.
Brandon Dallmann (103), Kyle Anderson (220) and heavyweight Skylar Ford each earned one win.
It was a busy week for the Blue Jays as they had seven duals in five days. They’re back in action on Thursday, hosting Carrington at 7 p.m.
