Jimmies one win from nationals

The Jimmie men’s soccer team is within one win of a return trip to nationals.

Jonathan Jacobs and Jack Keeling scored second-half goals to lift the University of Jamestown over the University of Great Fall 2-1 at the Unaffiliated tournament in Billings, Mont., on Friday.

The Jimmies (11-5-1) will play Rocky Mountain College (13-3-1) in the championship match today at 2:30 p.m. It’s a rematch of last year’s title tilt. The Jimmies won last November 2-1.

Scoreless through 62-plus minutes, Jacobs broke the seal with an unassisted goal at 62:51 for a 1-0 Jamestown lead. About 13 minutes later, the Jimmies went up 2-0 on a goal from Keeling. Jade Johnson assisted.

The Argos made it interest late with a goal with less than three minutes to play.

The Jimmies allowed just four shots with Thomas Cooke stopping three.

But the Battlin’ Bears got the equalizer with just 90 seconds left.
