Jimmies earn scholar awards

A total of six University of Jamestown Jimmie football student-athletes were announced as 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete Award winners on Friday.

Kicker Ryan Benke, a fifth-year senior from Jamestown, junior quarterback Beau Eriksson, from Devils Lake, junior linebacker Jared Mack, from Cavalier, junior tight end Derek Roemmich, from Linton, senior receiver Trent Roemmich, from Linton and senior running back Andrew Rott, from Anamoose, were all honored with the award.

This this the third such honor for Trent Roemmich and Ryan Benke. Roemmich has also earned the award in football (2012) and track and field (2013), while Benke also earned the award in football (2012) and track and field (2012).

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced that 259 football student-athletes have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. For the second-straight year, Cumberland (Tenn.) led all institutions with 16 individuals on the list.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
