DSU sweeps Jimmies

Runs were hard to come by Tuesday in Dickinson.

Jimmie pitchers allowed just six runs in 12 innings, but the Blue Hawks were better in 3-2 and 4-1 victories.

Hanna Dunnigan and Emily Snow threw effectively for the Jimmies, but Jamestown managed just eight hits combined in the two games.

“I thought we pitched pretty well today,” UJ coach Kevin Gall said. “Dickinson has a pretty good lineup … limiting them to four runs in the first game and three runs in the second, but obviously it wasn’t good enough today.”

The Jimmies (15-13) had their six-game winning streak snapped. They’re scheduled to host Valley City State Thursday at 3 p.m.

Two DSU pitchers handcuffed the Jimmies in the opener.

Tiffany Morgan pitched into the seventh and Regan Lawrence closed out the 1-run win.

The Jimmies’ two runs in the top of  the fifth inning tied it at 2-2. It all came with two outs as Sydney Greenlund doubled and scored on a single by Brooke Rheault. After Sarah Money walked, Rheault scored on a DSU error.

The Blue Hawks went ahead in the bottom of the sixth inning on just one hit, but also got an error and had another batter hit by a pitch.

Dunnigan pitched well otherwise, allowing just five hits and one walk in six innings.

Brook Rheault had three of the Jimmies’ five hits. Jessica Snow also singled to go with Greenlund’s double.

DSU 4, UJ 1

Lawrence held the Jimmies to one run on three hits in the nightcap.

Hattie Fullmer singled in Money in the top of the sixth inning with two outs for the lone Jamestown run. Tylynn McKeever and Autumn Wang had the other hits.

Emily Snow surrendered nine hits to the Blue Hawks. Three of DSU’s runs came in the bottom of the fourth. Two Jimmie errors contributed to the 3-run frame.

The Jimmies committed four errors on the day.

“I thought the girls pitched pretty well but I didn’t think we played a very good defensive game and that was pretty obvious to everybody. There were easy outs we didn’t make, whether it was balls in the sun, either way we didn’t make them,” Gall said. “It was a little bit disappointing in that regard that we didn’t make those outs, but part of the game is learning from the mistakes you made and moving on, so that’s our focus and what we hope to do.”
