Runs were hard to come by for the Jimmies on Friday and it resulted in a quick end to their season.

The University of Jamestown lost to the University of Great Falls 3-0 and Dickinson State 6-2 at the North Star Athletic Association/Frontier Conference tournament at McElroy Park.

The Jimmies had more strikeouts (14) than hits (11) on the day.

“We didn’t do much of anything with the bats,” said coach Kevin Gall. “We need to figure out hitting, or find some girls that can just do it.”

The Jimmies finished the season at 21-23 and were unable to establish much consistency offensively.

“We weren’t bad at times, but we were close to it,” Gall said. “We just had a tough time scoring runs and we struck out too much. We couldn’t figure it out.”

Great Falls ace Keeley Van Blaricom blanked the Jimmies on a two-hitter in the third game of the day. She also had 12 strikeouts.

“We faced her earlier (in the season) and were opportunistic and had enough to hold on,” Gall said. “She’s a good pitcher. We didn’t do much against her and we didn’t get any breaks.”

Tylynn McKeever doubled for the Jimmies. Hattie Fullmer had the other hit.

Senior Emily Snow worked the first four frames and took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits.

Against Dickinson State, the Jimmies scored an unearned run in the top of the first, but were held scoreless until the seventh by Tiffany Morgan.

Courtney Van den Bussche went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Jimmies. Emily Newman also had two hits and an RBI.

Mandy Thiessen took the loss for the Jimmies, her third in 10 decisions.

Rebecca Lopez paced the Blue Hawks, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored as Dickinson State (37-13) extended its winning streak to 20 games.

DiSU 9, DaSU 0 (5)

The top-seeded Blue Hawks rolled to a 9-0 win in the opening game of the day.

Regan Lawrence fired a one-hitter with four strikeouts for Dickinson State.

Brianna Grayson went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Lopez scored twice and drove in two.

Samantha Mitchell had the Trojans’ lone hit.

VCSU 13, PC 9

Valley City State clubbed three home runs en route to a 13-9 win over Presentation College.

Liz Hall-Sewell, Brittany Lehner and Katarina Boychuk all went deep for the Vikings, who had 11 hits.

The Saints banged out 14 hits and got home runs from Shelby Anderson and Brenda Botzenhart.

Lindsey White earned the win in relief for the Vikings.

DaSU 7, PC 2

Brittany Hill and Katie Slibowski homered and two Dakota State pitchers combined to allow just five hits in a 7-2 win over Presentation College in loser-out play.

Rachel Hughes worked the first 5 1/3 innings in the circle to get the win.

Leadoff hitter Erica Belter was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Trojans.

Anderson had two hits as the Saints finished the season at 19-26.

The Argos moved into a showdown of tournament unbeatens with Dickinson State thanks to a combined three-hit shutout from Kirstie Thomas and Van Blaricom.

The Blue Hawks and Argos (16-15) square off at 11 a.m.

Thomas went the first four and Van Blaricom notched the save by working the final three innings.

Regan Rucks went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Argos, while Thomas also contributed two hits.

Samantha Nalley went all seven in the circle for the Vikings. She fanned nine batters and surrendered three runs on 10 hits.

Hall-Sewell had two of the Vikings’ three hits. Valley City State plays Dakota State in the second game today in a loser-out contest.
