Early returns were positive for the Jimmie women’s cross country team.

In fact, it was nearly a landslide.

While the meet was small, just three teams, University of Jamestown runners had five of the top eight times in the field against Concordia College and Valley City State runners.

Sophomore Christa Lysne beat the field by 12 seconds to place first, while running partner Samantha Goff was second.

“I am impressed by how aggressively our whole team ran,” UJ women’s coach Jim Clark said. “It is easy to be timid in a first race but we got out early and pressed the race.”

Lysne was in fine form, crossing first in 16-minutes, 16-seconds. Goff was second in 16:18.

“Christa and Sam both looked good and I expected that,” Clark said.

Freshman Symbria Bell was an impressive fourth in her debut.

“Symbria had a great kick to edge into fourth,” Clark said.

Amber Posner (16:55) and Cassidy Peterson (16:34) — also freshmen — were sixth and eighth, respectively.

“Three freshmen in the top eight is very encouraging,” Clark said. “I thought all eight of our runners today had a good first meet.”

The Jimmies don’t compete next weekend. They’re back in action on Friday, Sept. 12 at the Randy Smith Invite in Glyndon, Minn.
