Local figure skaters perform

James River Figure Skating Club had eight skaters compete in the 26th annual Northern Star International Figure Skating Competition held in East Grand Forks (Minn.) on Jan. 12-13.

The competition brought together 234 skaters from 15 clubs. James River's eight skaters were registered in 25 events and earned 24 total medals, including 12 first-place medals.

James River Figure Skating Club is coached by Mark Vasarhelyi. The team's individual results are as follows:

-- Hannah Jorgenson, Novice: Compulsory 2nd; Artistic 1st; Freeskate (TT) 3rd; Spins 2nd.

-- Annika Tweten, Pre Juvenile: Compulsory 5th; Artistic 2nd; Freeskate (WB) 4th; Spins 2nd.

-- Gabby Tweten, Preliminary: Compulsory 1st; Artistic 1st; Freeskate (WB) 3rd; Spins 1st.

-- McKenna Becker, Pre Preliminary: Compulsory 3rd; Artistic 1st; Freeskate (TT) 2nd.

-- Terese Kolden, High Beginner: Compulsory 1st; Artistic 2nd; Freeskate 2nd.

-- Ella Grosulak, High Beginner: Compulsory 2nd; Artistic 3rd; Freeskate 1st.

-- Avery Graves, High Beginner: Compulsory 1st; Artistic 5th; Freeskate 1st.

-- Recce Heery, Beginner: Freeskate 4th.
