Optimist Club honors athletes

Chandlar Rott, Chea Baugh, Annie Nelson, Austin Rene and Benji Miller were selected athletes of the week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Rott, a freshman on the Blue Jay boys cross country team, placed fifth overall and led the Jays to a second-place team finish at the Devils Lake Invite.

Baugh, a seventh-grader on the Blue Jay girls swimming and diving team, has qualified for the state meet in six events to the lead the team (50, 100, 200, 500 free, 200 IM, 100 fly).

Nelson, a senior on the Jimmie women's golf team from Bismarck, led Jamestown (74-84--158) during the Jimmie Fall Classic at the Jamestown Country Club.

Miller (73-71--144), a senior on the Jimmie men's golf team from Rugby, and Rene (76-68--144), a sophomore on the Jimmie men's golf team from Jamestown, tied for medalist honors at the Fall Classic.

University of Jamestown sophomore Austin Rene was selected as the North Star Athletic Association's men's golfer of the week.

Tied for 13th-place after round 1 of the Jimmie fall classic at 4-over par, Rene fired a 4-under par 68 on day 2 to grab a share of medalist honors.

EEK still leads polls

The defending Class 1A football champions still hold down the top spot in the latest media poll.

Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm (5-0) received 13 of 18 first-place votes. Carrington (4-0) remains fifth.
