Twins bring back Pelfrey

The Minnesota Twins re-signed free-agent pitcher Mike Pelfrey to a two-year, $11 million contract on Saturday, according to a report.

Pelfrey’s new deal includes $3.5 million in incentives.

The right-hander did not have a banner year in 2013, posting a 5-13 record with a 5.19 ERA in 152 2/3 innings spanning 29 starts. Pelfrey has a 55-67 career record with a 4.50 ERA.

The 29-year-old Pelfrey underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in May 2012 after pitching in only three games. Pelfrey’s best year was with the New York Mets in 2010 when he posted a 15-9 record.

 with a 3.66 ERA.

The Twins have worked hard during the offseason to bolster their pitching, signing Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes and re-signing Pelfrey.
