Jimmies' bats heat up in Tucson

The University of Jamestown softball team's bats joined the 80-degree weather as the hottest thing in Tucson, Ari. Monday afternoon.

The Jimmies racked up 26 runs and 33 hits in a 16-6 win against Park University and a 10-4 victory over Robert Morris in the nightcap.

"We took extra batting practice," said Jamestown softball coach Kevin Gall. "I was waiting for us to come out a little bit. There were some girls that were pressing and not hitting like they were suppose to."

The Pirates took a 6-2 lead after two innings by capitalizing on five unearned runs. The Jimmies scored 14 runs over the final three innings to secure the 10-run victory, while ending the game a frame early.

Senior catcher Tifani Schorzman went 4-for-5 in the cleanup spot, including three doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs. Overall, nine out of the 11 players that played in the game recorded a hit.

"She's just a real consistent player for us and just a competitor," Gall said of Schorzman. "These teams don't know about us and they try and pitch her away—and that's where she likes the ball. I expect her to set simple goals and get on base at least once a game."

Jamestown slowly built up an 8-3 lead in the fourth inning of game 2 and cruised to a six-run victory.

"We had base runners on in just about every inning, and we had a lot of hustle plays, eventually getting a big lead," Gall said. "That's how I would like to do it."

Junior right fielder Meghan Ramage went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, including three RBIs.

The Jimmies will continue play in Tucson against Dordt College today.

"I would like to see some of our top players step up and show what they can do," Gall said.
