Haak, Arellano pace Jimmies

University of Jamestown's Paulina Haak and Kaiann Arellano continued their strong indoor track and field seasons Saturday at the Dakota Wesleyan University Alumni Invite in Sioux City, Neb.

Haak won the women's weight throw with a distance of 16.05 meters. Her throw was 1.27 meters farther than Morningside's Meagan Andersen's toss of 14.78.

"We're just waiting for her to have a good one," said Jimmies women's track and field coach Megan Kuehl. "She's been so consistent lately, which has been a plus."

Arellano just edged three other competitors for first place in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters. Dordt College's Sarah De Haan, Joscelyn Wind and Northwestern (Iowa)'s Hannah Paauw finished in a tie for second at 1.5 meters.

Arellano also finished runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles. She lost to Dordt's Danielle Wubben by six-hundredths of a second.

"She's such a good athlete," Kuehl said.

Jimmie sophomore Julia Johnson placed second in the long jump (5.14 meters). Wubben won the event with a jump of 5.36.

Senior Amber Posner and junior Allison Foster finished third and fourth, respectively, for Jamestown in the 5,000-meter run. Madison Mach placed second in the pole vault with top vault of 2.77 meters.

The Jimmies head to the St. Thomas Showcase, in St. Paul, Minn. on Friday.

"We're hoping to better our mark and help our marks for conference," Kuehl said. "Dickinson has a good team and there's some good individuals. We have to build off some of these performances."
