Eagles hand Jimmie volleyball their first loss
The 25th-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team was cruising through its first six games of the season, including knocking off 23rd-ranked Ottawa University in five sets Friday night. But Central Methodist University became too much for the Jimmies on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles upset Jamestown 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-15) during the final day of the Sarpy County Tourism Labor Day Classic in Bellevue, Neb. The Jimmies are now 6-1, while Central Methodist is 9-1.
Jamestown was the more aggressive team throughout the non-conference contest with 132 total attacks, compared to the Eagles' 116. But 21 errors for the Jimmies became the difference in the match.
LaMoure's Anna Holen had a team-high eight kills, while Ellendale's Isabel Wedell, Corina Ruud and Kennedy Conzemius each tallied five. Jamestown's Julina Niemeier once again led in digs with 17.
The Jimmies will kickoff Great Plains Athletic Conference play against undefeated Dakota Wesleyan (9-0) Tuesday on the road at 6:30 p.m.
