Evidence seized in a Jan. 21 traffic stop on Interstate 94 near Jamestown is inadmissible because the Stutsman County sheriff’s deputy who initiated the stop did not have a reasonable basis to do so, a judge ruled Friday. “This stop was unconstitutional, flagrantly so, and all evidence seized during the search of the defendant’s vehicle must be excluded at trial,” Southeast District Court Judge Jay Schmitz wrote in his ruling.

Work on improving and expanding the Jamestown Regional Airport parking lot will start on July 9. Sam Seafeldt, Jamestown Regional Airport director, said Wednesday work on the $675,000 project will require creating temporary parking on the grassy area south of the existing parking lot. He said airport personnel will direct people who are parking long term at the airport to park in this temporary area starting in the next two weeks.
A property tax increase proposal from the Jamestown Rural Fire District Board was approved by an almost 2-to-1 majority Tuesday in Jamestown.
Qualified electors who live in the Jamestown Rural Fire District will vote Tuesday on an up to 5-mill property tax levy request that will fund a new $2.8 million fire station for the Jamestown Rural Fire Department. The polls will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jamestown Rural Fire Department fire station, 205 3rd Ave. NW in Jamestown.
The Jamestown Police Department apprehended a 15-year-old Jamestown boy early Saturday morning after he was allegedly caught breaking into vehicles in the Klaus Park area. JPD Lt. Nick Hardy said the Stutsman County Communications Center received a call of a suspicious person looking in the windows of vehicles in the Klaus Park area shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, June 16. He said an officer responding to the scene saw the boy and after a short chase on foot took the boy into custody.

The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Commission has two new members. Mike Soulis received the most votes with 1,490 votes, based on complete but unofficial results. Mindi Schmitz had 1,381 votes and incumbent Mike Landscoot had 1,317 votes. Also running were Ryan Schlafman, who received 1,124 votes, Mitch Ostlie, who received 880, and Chris Aarhus had 667. Soulis said he is looking forward to serving on the commission. "I appreciate the people of Jamestown thinking I can do a good job on the Parks and Rec Commission," he said.
