MINNEAPOLIS — Former Washington Redskins quarterback and South Florida resident Billy Kilmer has been following Teddy Bridgewater since the Vikings rookie was in high school. Now that Bridgewater is a pro, Kilmer has some advice for him. Don’t be like Robert Griffin III. Kilmer has respect for Griffin, the Washington quarterback who reportedly will return from a dislocated ankle and start Sunday’s game against Minnesota at TCF Bank Stadium. But Kilmer thinks Griffin’s style is reckless and makes him injury-prone.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Teddy Bridgewater grew up following Brett Favre when he starred for the Packers. On Tuesday, he learned something about Favre’s time with the Vikings. Favre was the last Minnesota quarterback to lead the Vikings to victory in Green Bay, a 38-26 win in 2009. Since then, the Vikings are 0-4-1 at Lambeau Field, including a 2012 playoff game. “I had no idea,” Bridgewater said. “That’s an interesting fact, a cool fact.” It’s one the rookie quarterback could help change if he plays Thursday night at Lambeau.
MINNEAPOLIS — Nobody wants to see Mike Zimmer mad. Vikings rookie linebacker Anthony Barr cites that as one reason he wants to improve. Barr, taken No. 9 overall in...
NEW ORLEANS — First, Adrian Peterson was banished. Then Jerome Simpson was released. Now, Matt Cassel has gone down in a heap. More bad news hit the Vikings on Sunday when their starting quarterback was lost due to a broken left foot in a 20-9 defeat to New Orleans at the Superdome. Rookie Teddy Bridgewater took over in the second quarter, and he’s now Minnesota’s starter. There haven’t been many tougher weeks in Vikings history than the past one. Peterson, a star running back indicted Sept.
MINNEAPOLIS — A pair of Super Bowl-winning coaches said Friday that Mike Zimmer is the right coach to get the Vikings through this Adrian Peterson mess. The former MVP running back was put on the NFL’s exempt list Wednesday after being indicted last week in Texas on a charge of child abuse. The Vikings likely won’t have Peterson for the rest of the season, which could make Zimmer’s first year as an NFL head coach a rocky one. “Mike Zimmer is as tough a guy as I’ve ever met,” Jon Gruden told the Pioneer Press.
Adrian Peterson’s lawyer said Monday night that a new child-abuse allegation in Texas regarding a different Peterson son is “simply not true.” A Houston television station, KHOU, Ch. 11, first reported an alleged separate incident involving another of Peterson’s sons.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings announced Monday that running back Adrian Peterson will return to practice this week and play in Sunday’s game at New Orleans despite having been indicted last week in Texas on a charge of harm to a child. Shortly thereafter, Peterson released a statement in which he said, “I am, without a doubt, not a child abuser.”
MINNEAPOLIS — Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel said he was “shocked’’ by Friday’s news on Adrian Peterson. Wide receiver Cordarelle Patterson called it “surprising.’’ Two days later, though, nobody on the Vikings was using the star running back’s absence as an excuse for an ugly 30-7 loss to New England. The Vikings announced Friday that Peterson would be deactivated against the Patriots after he was indicted in Texas that day on a felony charge of injury to a child.
MINNEAPOLIS — Never mind that the New England coach might not have said it. Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson vows to be fired up Sunday against the Patriots because of an alleged comment by Bill Belichick. The Patriots originally had the No. 29 pick in the first round of the 2013 draft. The Vikings then traded them four picks to move up and take Patterson. “I’ve seen a little article today where Belichick, I think he said he didn’t want me,” Patterson told reporters Thursday. “So that’s the kind of things that stick in the back of a player’s head.
MINNEAPOLIS — They compete against each other in golf. And basketball. But for the first time Sunday, good friends Matt Cassel and Tom Brady will face each other in football. When Cassel broke into the NFL with New England in 2005, quarterback Tom Brady already had won three Super Bowls and had all but secured a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
