EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn.—With the first day of school creeping closer daily, some area schools still face a shortage of key personnel—bus drivers. Thanks to substitutes and backup measures, kids still will get to school even if no more drivers can be found, administrators said, but East Grand Forks Public Schools, Crookston (Minn.) Public Schools, Fisher (Minn.) School and Thief River Falls (Minn.) Public Schools all hope to hire bus drivers if possible.

The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with other organizations to bring educational programs to local businesses. “We’re going to be working with North Dakota State University,” said Lisa Hicks, the chamber’s executive director. The chamber and NDSU are bringing at least two NDSU Executive Education sessions to Jamestown, tying it in with the Young Professionals of Jamestown’s Soup and Substance series. “It’s geared for business leaders and young professionals looking to move up in their careers,” Hicks said.
Lovers of sweet corn beware: This year’s annual all-you-can-eat sweet corn feed at Immanuel Lutheran Church could be the last. Those hoping for one more bite of the tasty tradition can still get their summery, sweet corn fix from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, located at 1403 9th Ave.
While adults may get their children immunized on schedule, they often forget that they too need vaccinations. Local runners rejoice: cross country coaches from Jamestown High School and the University of Jamestown are working together to make a new cross country course. The course, located just north of Parkhurst Campground, could be used for cross country meets by next fall, said Ken Gardner, head boys and girls cross country coach for Jamestown High School. “We’re measuring out now and going to start to get it established,” Gardner said.
A group of volunteers from St. James Basilica returned recently from a mission trip to Chimbote, Peru, where they rebuilt homes, delivered beds and stoves and helped a variety of people living in poverty. “The spirit of the people is just amazing,” said Paulette Webb, one of those who went on the trip.

Made by artist Guillermo “Memo” Guardia, the llama sculptures — and one dog sculpture — are the objects of the Arts Center’s annual Art Hunt.
