Newly ranked Milnor-North Sargent opened the Barnes County Tournament with an 80-28 victory over Barnes County North on Tuesday in Class B boys basketball action in Valley City. Every player scored for the Bison with senior Jacob Hanson leading the way with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Allen Contreras topped Barnes County North with 13 points. Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page advanced to the semifinal round with 57-38 win over LaMoure-Litchville-Marion.
In the final game of Thursday's opening-round action of the Stutsman County Tournament at the Civic Center, newly ranked Carrington defeated South Border 65-41. The Cardinals, who are ranked 10th in the latest Class B poll, got a game-high 20 points from junior Garrett Bickett. Bryce Edland added 16 and Kolton Vetter chipped in 14 more for the Cardinals. Bryton Dewald led South Border offensively scoring 16 points. Tristan Lippert also reached double-digits with 14 for the Mustangs.
Top-ranked Four Winds-Minnewaukan defeated Grafton in a battle of unbeatens on Thursday night in Class B basketball. The Indians made 14 three-pointers on their way to an 83-50 win. Irv Tomahawk and Steve Redfox combined for 11 triples on their way to scoring 24 and 21 points, respectively. Tronis McKay was also in double figures with 17 for Four Winds-Minnewaukan (2-0). Noah Braun picked up a pin for Jamestown High School but it wasn't enough as it came up short 45-21 in a wrestling dual on Thursday at Turtle Mountain. Braun, who is ranked fourth in the state at 138 pounds, wrestled up a weight class at 145 against the Braves. He stuck the Braves' Chance Brunelle in the third period. "Noah had a tough match, but he came out and got the job done," Jamestown coach Larry Eslick said. Eslick also applauded the performance of senior Dominic Laber at 113. Laber picked up a 7-2 decision over Turtle Mountain's Peter McCloud.
Carrington turned away Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter on Thursday in Class B boys basketball. The Cardinals led 47-22 at the half and continued on to a 78-39 victory over the Imperials at Gackle-Streeter High School. Garrett Bicket scored 22 points for the Cardinals while Payton Smith and Jayden Shipman contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.
