LOS ANGELES (AP)-- Norma Zimmer, the "Champagne Lady" of TV's "The Lawrence Welk Show" and a studio singer who worked with Frank Sinatra and other pop stars, has died. She was 87. Zimmer died peacefully Tuesday at her Brea, Calif., home, Welk's son, Larry, said Wednesday. Larry Welk didn't know the cause of death but said Zimmer had been living an active life in recent years. "She was one of the most gracious, likable people that anyone could ever meet.

Kathleen Ackerman, 75, Jamestown, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at her home, after a long battle with cancer. Kathleen Lois Purcell was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Carrington, N.D., the daughter of Ervan and Irene (Krapp) Purcell. She attended grade school in Deer Lake Township and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954. She attended Valley City (N.D.) Teachers College and took classes in Colorado, North Dakota State University, Fargo, N.D., and online from California and Alaska. She married Keith Ackerman in November 1957.
Eugene "Eli" Whitney, 68, died May 9, 2011 at Innovis Health, Fargo, ND. Eugene was born December 21, 1942 in Jamestown, ND to George and Annamae Whitney. He attended Jamestown High School and graduated in 1960. He then went to Wahpeton State School of Science majoring in linotype printing, and graduated in 1962. He began his printing career in Jamestown. Eugene married Doreene Engstrom in Carrington, in June 1965 and lived in Jamestown and numerous cities and states throughout their marriage. He served in the North Dakota National Guard for 6 years.
Rodney Allen Hanson finished his good fight and entered his reward May 7, 2011, surrounded by family. His fight was long but his life was defined by his faith and tenacity, rather than his illness. He was born on October 2, 1949 to Arnold and Gladys Hanson in Minot, North Dakota. He was brought up on a dairy and grain farm and raised pigs and hogs for 4-H. While in high school he played baseball, basketball, and track. He was valedictorian of Montpelier High School in 1967. Rod graduated from NNC in 1971 with a history teaching degree.
