NEW YORK (AP) -- Long before Public Enemy urged the need to "Fight the Power" or N.W.A. offered a crude rebuke of the police, Gil-Scott Heron was articulating the rage and the disillusionment of the black masses through song and spoken word. Scott-Heron, widely considered one of the godfathers of rap with his piercing social and political prose laid against the backdrop of minimalist percussion, flute and other instrumentation, died on Friday at age 62.

Eunice Friedholm, 82, Richfield, Minn., formerly of Woodworth, N.D., died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Mt. Olivet Care View Home, Richfield. Eunice Darlene Friedholm was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Woodworth, the daughter of Henry and Alma B. (Struxness) Friedholm. She graduated from James-town College, Jamestown, with a degree in accounting. She worked for Herbert Bell Accounting Firm for many years, and later for Boulay, Heutmaker and Zibell & Co. from 1982 to 1994. She was a licensed accountant.
Roy M. Christensen was born July 24, 1914 in Minneapolis, MN. After a long and mostly healthy life he passed away on Sunday, May 22nd in Reno, NV. He was the oldest son of Sigurd P. and Carrie (Ruud) Christensen. He attended and graduated from West High School in Minneapolis in 1932.
Morgan Hayes, 15, of Langdon, ND, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at her home under the care of Hospice and surrounded by people who loved her dearly. Morgan Shea Hayes was born June 2, 1995 at Williston, ND. She and her family lived at Carson and Tioga before moving to Munich in 2000. Morgan attended the Munich Public School from Kindergarten through 7th grade. In 2008 she moved to Langdon where she currently was a member of the Langdon Area School sophomore class. She was in band and was a cheerleader.

Blanche Norheim, 81, Burnsville, Minn., died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Emerald Crest, Burnsville. Blanche Irene Piercy was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Pingree, N.D., the daughter of George and Marie Piercy. She married Gerald Norheim on July 3, 1948. They lived in Jamestown for 18 years before moving to Burnsville. She ran a home day care for 31 years and volunteered at the Burnsville Hospital. She enjoyed crafts and cross stitching.
Evelyn "Dolly" Taszarek, 89, Edgeley, N.D., died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at her home. Evelyn Brandenberg was born April 1, 1922, on the family farm, the daughter of Herman and Edith (Stibbe) Brandenburg. She attended country school and moved to Edgeley where she graduated in 1939 from Edgeley High School. She married Theodore "Ted" Taszarek on Oct. 8, 1940, on the Brandenberg family farm. They lived in Edgeley for a few years and she then moved to California while he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. She worked at Edy's, Oakland, Calif.
Jennifer Alber, 33, Marion, N.D., formerly of South St. Paul, Minn., died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at her father's home in Marion, of cancer. Jennifer Marie Alber was born Nov. 9, 1977, in Jamestown, the daughter of Larry and Vicki (Lenssen) Alber. She grew up in Marion and graduated in 1997 from Litchville-Marion Public School. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Manor, LaMoure, N.D. She graduated from Josef's School of Hair Design, Fargo, N.D., and worked at various salons in the area and later in Minneapolis, Minn.
Micheal H. "Mike" Doyle, 56, Jamestown, North Dakota passed away at his home Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in the loving care of his daughters, family and Jamestown Hospital Hospice. Micheal was born October 21, 1954 in Jamestown, the son of Dorsey and Marilyn (Burton) Doyle. He was a life long resident of James-town, attending school and graduating from Jamestown High School in 1972. He immediately went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad, where he eventually was assigned to the Building and Bridges Section and remained until his retirement, after 27 years.
