Dennis D. Rau, 69, Devils Lake, N.D., formerly of Mooreton, N.D., died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at his home. Mr. Rau was born July 24, 1941, in Logan County, rural Napoleon, N.D., the son of Edward and Lydia (Mertz) Rau. He attended elementary school in a one-room school, in German Township and graduated from Streeter (N.D.) High School in 1959. He farmed with his father and did haystack moving until spring of 1970. He moved to Jamestown and worked at Haybuster Manufacturing until July 1974.
Eldon George Baker, 84, Jamestown, died Monday, April 11, 2011, at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown. Mr. Baker was born April 12, 1926, in Jamestown, the son of George and Irma (Albrecht) Baker. The family moved to west of Buchanan, N.D., and Sharlow, Lenten and Woodbury townships. He attended country schools and graduated from Eldridge (N.D.) High School in 1944. He farmed. He married Lois Schrade in 1949. They lived in Jamestown. He worked for Equity Creamery, Bush and Polar Propane Gas Company and for Bob Ibes Sr.
Ben B. Meier, 78, Jamestown, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Triumph Hospital, Fargo, N.D. Mr. Meier was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Devils Lake, N.D., the son of Michael and Ann (Lingor) Meier. He grew up and attended school in Devils Lake, graduating from Devils Lake High School. He took commercial pilot training with airplane and helicopter ratings. He married Ann Hager on Oct. 27, 1952, in Devils Lake. They moved to Jamestown. He owned and operated Jamestown Aviation from 1963 to the present.
Richard H. Thom, 69, of Libby died Thursday April 7, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Hospital from natural causes. He was born May 26, 1941 in James-town, ND to Arnold & Mary Baenen Thom. He was raised on a farm near James-town and attended school in Jamestown. He graduated from Jamestown High School with the class of 1959. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church at an early age. After high school he attended Wahpeton Tech School for 2 years to become an electrician. He entered the US Army in 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1968. He married Cheryl Coffman in Oct. of 1966 in Conrad, MT.
Esther Buerkle, 94, Fredonia, N.D., died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Bethany Nursing Home, Fargo, N.D. Esther Buerkle was born April 26, 1916, on the family farm near Fredonia, the daughter of John H. and Christina (Hehr) Buerkle. She grew up at Fredonia and attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education. She married Wilhelm G. Schultz on Dec. 20, 1942, in Fredonia. They lived on a farm five miles northeast of Fredonia. He died Feb. 7, 1968. She lived on the farm until 1975. She married Theo Buerkle on Nov. 23, 1981, in Fredonia.
Mabel Carlson, 91, Jamestown, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Wayne, Neb. Mabel Elizabeth Stuff was born Oct. 10, 1919, in James-town, the daughter of Adolph and Matilda (Johnson) Stuff. She lived at rural Courtenay, N.D., until 1930, when the family moved to James-town. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1939. She was employed as a nurse's aide at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.
Maureen Anne Schram Cook, 64, passed away on March 26, 2011 after a long struggle with Lung Lupus. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16, at St. James Basilica, Jamestown at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Cremation has taken place and no visitation will be held. Maureen was born to William Thomas Schram and Marion Rose Doolin Schram on July 13, 1946 in Chicago, IL. She lived in Chicago in a section called "Back of the Yards" a richly ethnic area composed of Irish, Polish, German and Slavic immigrant families.

Florence Bryan, 86, Harvey, N.D., died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at St. Aloisius Nursing Home. Harvey. Florence Eva Port was born June 28, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo. She served two years in the U.S. Army as a clerk typist and was honorably discharged in 1945. She worked for several years as a technician in a photo lab and later as a security guard with the Pinkerton National Detective Agency.
