Drexel Dale "Rex" Young, Sr., 90, Jamestown, ND died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown. Rex was born August 18, 1922 in Sheridan, IA, the son of Henry and Emma (Rusco) Young. He attended elementary school and high school in Iowa and Missouri. On October 17, 1942 he and Helen Mae Goodin were married in Elwood, KS. On December 26, 1942 he entered the US Army at Camp McCoy, WI. He served with the 602nd Tank Destroyer Battalion in Europe in five major campaigns.
Ellen M. Gebhardt, wife of Marvin H. Gebhardt and Jamestown resident, died peacefully at Eventide Hi-Acres Manor on May 6, 2013, from congestive heart disease. Ellen was born in New Rockford, N.D., on 11 January 1923, the middle child of seven. She was married to Marvin H. Gebhardt in Fargo in June 1945, and went with him to Grand Forks in the summer of 1947. The Gebhardt family lived there for about 30 years. During this time, Ellen was very active in the Parent Teachers Association, Cub Scouts, and church activities, both as a supporter and small group leader.
Earl Gabrielson, 79, of Jamestown, ND, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Earl R. Gabrielson was born on October 21, 1933 in Hillsboro, ND, the son of Gustav and Pauline (Nelson) Gabrielson. He graduated from high school and entered the US Air Force in Fargo, ND on January 13, 1953. Earl served as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict and was discharged on January 12, 1957. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science. Earl married the love of his life, Audrey Freestad, on June 20, 1959 at Hendrum, MN.

Arnold H. Berg, age 91, Carrington, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford. Arnold was born November 26, 1921 at Starkweather, N.D., the son of Bert and Emma (Hanson) Berg. He graduated from Starkweather High School in 1940. He then attended N.D. State School of Science in Wahpeton, N.D. On May 23, 1942, he married Marian Delores Johnson at Starkweather. On October 29, 1942, he entered the US Army at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served with the 353rd Infantry Reg. Co. B in central Europe and the Rhineland during World War II.
