Jacob Sayler, 84, Wishek, N.D., died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek. Mr. Sayler was born Dec. 11, 1925, at Wishek, the son of Edward and Christina (Weisser) Sayler. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Wishek and attended rural school. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1945 and was discharged August 1946. He then worked on the family farm until 1950. He married Irene Mueller on April 2, 1955, at Madison, S.D. He worked for Kramer Implement, the local John Deere dealership, as a tractor mechanic.

Elsa Horsted, 80, Carrington, N.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington. Elsa Pfahl was born on June 16, 1929, at Napoleon, N.D., the daughter of Daniel and Lizzie (Bader) Pfahl. She was raised in Kidder County and graduated from Medina High School in 1947. She married Rudy Stroh. She later married Clarence Horsted. They later divorced. She was a homemaker and also worked as a receptionist. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Norman Glenn Frey, 81, Jamestown, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at his home. Mr. Frey was born Jan. 30, 1929, at Jamestown, the son of Elmer and Adeline (Koehn) Frey. He attended Jamestown Public School and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1946. He helped on the family farm prior to entering the U.S. Army on Jan. 16, 1951, at Jamestown. He served with the 188th Field Artillery Battalion at Camp Rucker, Ala. He married Dolores Bitterman on Aug. 15, 1951, at Jamestown. He was discharged in May 1952 at Camp Rucker with the rank of corporal. They farmed east of Jamestown until 1992.
Clarence R. Weispfenning, 88, Moorhead, Minn., formerly of Jamestown, died Friday, April 9, 2010, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead. Mr. Weispfenning was born Oct. 17, 1921, in rural Logan County, North Dakota, the son of Otto and Matilda (Rath) Weispfenning. He grew up on the family farm in Logan County and attended rural school. He later spent two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Sidney, Mont. He then returned to the family farm. He married Ella Fuchs on June 13, 1948, at Fredonia, N.D.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) -- Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who died Saturday in a plane crash in Russia, was a one-time anti-communist activist who teamed up with his twin brother to take his country in a nationalist, conservative direction. Kaczynski, 60, pursued a strongly pro-U.S. line in foreign relations, in accordance with a cross-party consensus that has grown in Poland since the fall of communism. He was an enthusiastic backer of plans to site a U.S. missile defense facility in the country, the largest of the European Union's new eastern members.
