Mark Jonathan Biss, 50, Bismarck, ND died June 10, 2009 after a long hard battle with lung cancer. Mark passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. A pot luck benefit is being held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday June 14, 2009 at the VFW Hall in Ana-moose. A memorial service will be held at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 16, 2009. There will be no visitation as it was Mark's request to be cremated. Mark was born on March 13, 1959 in Fullerton, CA, the son of Herbert O. and Leona (Kubler) Biss.

Thomas Merril Elhard of Galt, CA passed away on June 4, 2009, at the age of 72. He was born on February 17, 1936 in Jamestown, ND, the 11th child of John and Emelia Elhard. He graduated from James-town High School in 1954. He then joined the United States Marine Corp and then attended Jamestown College. On August 9, 1958 he married the love of his life, Sharon Claire Remboldt. They moved to Sacramento, CA where Tom joined the Sacramento Police Department.
DALLAS (AP) -- Norman Brinker, a restaurant mogul who popularized the salad bar and built a worldwide casual dining empire that includes Chili's Grill & Bar, died Tuesday. He was 78. He died in a Colorado hospital after suffering complications related to pneumonia while on vacation, Brinker International Inc. spokeswoman Stacey Sullivan said. rrr CHICAGO (AP) -- Former Cook County State's Attorney Edward V. Hanrahan, whose political career was ruined when police assigned to his office killed two Black Panthers in a pre-dawn raid in 1969, is dead. Hanrahan died Tuesday at age 88.
Harold Martel, 78, Mayville, N.D., formerly of Medina, N.D., died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Union Hospital, Mayville. Mr. Martel was born July 17, 1930, in Medina, the son of Ernest and Mary (Hins) Martel. He grew up and attended school in Medina. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on Feb. 20, 1952, in Fargo, N.D. He was discharged Feb. 11, 1954 with the rank of private first class. He married Annette Ambrose on Nov. 15, 1958, in Fargo. He worked for Great Plains Supply lumber yards, Fessenden, N.D., and Finley N.D., for more than 30 years.
Geraldine Kaseman, 58, Woodworth, N.D., died Friday, June 5, 2009, at her home. Geraldine Marie Weber was born April 28, 1951, in Eureka, S.D., the daughter of Clarence and Leona (Klein) Weber. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Ashley, N.D. She attended country school for a year and graduated from Ashley High School, Ashley, in 1969. She attended North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, N.D., for a year, where she studied accounting. She worked at Scotties Restaurant, Ashley Super Value, Ashley Sales Barn, Schlepp's Insurance, Ashley Senior Center and Tech Link.
Harold James Klein, 74, New Rockford, N.D., died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, N.D., after a battle with Parkinson's disease. Mr. Klein was born Sept. 14, 1934, in Silva, N.D., the son of Frank and Christine (Ripplinger) Klein. He graduated from Towner High School, Towner, N.D., in 1952. He attended Carroll College, Helena, Mont., for a year. He married Nancy Campbell on June 6, 1957, in Towner. They moved to New Rockford and farmed. They spend winters in Scottsdale, Ariz., since 1981.
