Marena Steele, 39, of Bismarck, passed away August 13, 2009, at her home. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Jeff Franko and Rev. Lisa Allness-Crane officiating. Burial will be at Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Lord of Life Lutheran Church where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Marena was born on October 3, 1969, to parents Darell & Kathy Hager at Bremerton Naval Hospital in Washington.
On August 12, 2009, Ordis Ann Haas, age 70, of Carrington ND, took the hand held out to her and received God's promise of Eternal Life. Ordis Ann Engel was born on September 1, 1938, at McVille, ND, to Orville and Aase (Tollefsrud) Engel. Her childhood was filled with joyful memories of farm living by Tolna, ND. Her family faced a difficult time with the loss of their mother in 1955. As the oldest, Ordis helped her father raise her younger siblings. On June 22, 1958, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Haas, in Tolna, ND.

Harry Wolff, 93, Streeter, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown. Mr. Wolff was born Nov. 9, 1915, at Blackfoot, Idaho, the son of Gottlieb and Rose (Zeeb) Wolff. The family moved to a farm south of Streeter in 1916. He grew up there and received his elementary education. He married Leah Ruff on Aug. 9, 1936, at Streeter. They lived on their farm west of Streeter until 1941, when they moved to the farm southeast of Streeter. They farmed for 49 years, then sold the farm, retired and moved into Streeter in 1992.

ROME (AP) -- Riccardo Cassin, a mountaineering pioneer credited with 100 first ascents from the Himalayas to Alaska, died Aug. 6. He was 100. Cassin died at his home in Piani Resinelli, a hamlet north of Milan at the foot of the Alps, his climbing equipment company said. The cause of death was not announced. He was born into poverty on Jan. 2, 1909, in the northeast village of San Vito al Tagliamento. As a young man, Cassin began work as a blacksmith in the town of Lecco on Lake Como.

Adeline M. Struxness, 79, Redlands, Calif., formerly of Woodworth, N.D., died July 19, 2009. Adeline Struxness was born Oct. 20, 1929, the daughter of Otto and Edna (Hust) Struxness. She is survived by two sons, Steward (Brett) Willason and Bradley (Linda) Willason; a brother, LeRoy, Woodworth; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Willis.
