Gary Michael Cumber, 59, of rural Harwood, ND, died at his home Sunday, May 10, 2009, of natural causes. Gary Michael Cumber was born November 18, 1949, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Robert and Alice (Lira) Cumber. He grew up on a farm near Montpelier, North Dakota, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1968. In the fall of 1968, Gary started school at NDSCS in Wahpeton, North Dakota, graduating two years later with an Associate Degree in Auto Mechanics. He joined the U.S. Army in 1970, serving one year in Vietnam, three years total.

Eugene Solem Westgard, 81, Plaza, N.D., died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at a Parshall, N.D., nursing home. Mr. Westgard was born Aug. 12, 1927, at Plaza, the son of Julius and Alma (Solem) Westgard. He grew up in Plaza and graduated from Plaza High School in 1945. He married Phyllis Patten on June 17, 1951. They lived west of Plaza in Shell Township in Mountrail County. They farmed and ranched on the Westgard family farm. She died Aug. 26, 2001. He then moved to Minot, N.D., and lived at Somerset Court.
Eunice Farthing, 89, Jamestown, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital. Eunice Sophie Dronen was born March 10, 1920, in Cleveland, N.D., the daughter of Malius and Olga (Haugen) Dronen. She married Donald Farthing Sr. on Sept. 2, 1939, in Big Timber, Mont. They moved to James-town in 1950. He died Nov. 3, 1973. She was employed at various places including Arnie's Truck Plaza, Parkway Café, Gordon's Chicken Inn and Northwest Y. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Freida Guthmiller, 90, Pettibone, North Dakota, was called home to God on Sunday, May 10, 2009. Freida Schmidt was born May 5, 1919 in Pettibone, ND, to Fred and Mary (Kaseman) Schmidt. She married Rudolph Guthmiller on November 9, 1943, and worked hard as a farmer's wife helping with the farm and raising her five children. Grandma Freida loved to bake and always had something special for her Grandchildren when they came to visit. She continued to bake for her family until last year when she went into the retirement home.
Noel Elwood McCoy, 67, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at his home in Jamestown. Noel was born December 25, 1941 in Jamestown, ND, the son of Rev. N.E. and Lillian (Melom) McCoy. He grew up in James-town and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1959. In 1961 Noel graduated from the North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton in Auto Mechanics. On June 17, 1962 Noel married Carol Grosz in Kulm, ND.
Ella Knopp, 87, Oakes, N.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Good Samaritan Society, Oakes. Ella Knopp was born Aug. 26, 1921, the daughter of John and Lydia (Schultz) Knopp, near the Coldwater District in McIntosh County, N.D. She grew up and attended country school there. She moved to Jamestown and worked as a housekeeper. She later took a course in practical nursing and work-ed at the Hazen (N.D.) Hospital for several years. She returned to Jamestown and retired. Due to ill health, she moved to Oakes Good Samaritan Society. She en-joyed embroidery and crafts.
LeRoy T. Rexine, 61, Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Jamestown, died May 5, 2009, in Tucson, after a battle with cancer. Mr. Rexine was born Aug. 21, 1947, in Jamestown, the son of Theodore and Agnes (Brophy) Rexine. He graduated from St. John's Academy in 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy from October 1965 to September 1969. He is survived by four sisters and four brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister. Services: 9 a.m. June 5, St. James Basilica, Jamestown. Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, N.D.
