A man is dead after a farm accident near Wimbledon, according to Randy McClafflin, Barnes County sheriff.

The accident occurred Aug. 31 near the 1600 block of 101st Avenue Southeast.

Two individuals were trying to extricate a tractor that had become stuck in a slough using a chain and tow ropes and a tractor. The chain broke causing fatal injuries to the operator of the tractor.

Assisting the Barnes County sheriff's office were the Wimbledon First Responders, Wimbledon Fire Department, Barnes County Ambulance Service, Valley City Rescue Squad and Sanford Med Flight.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time, McClafflin said.
