Ave Maria Village is changing its name on Oct. 1 to SMP Health - Ave Maria, according to SMP Health System. The long-term care facility will commonly use the name Ave Maria, said Tonie Lagodinski, Ave Maria administrator.
Ave Maria is one of five long-term care ministries within the SMP Health System, opening in 1962 under the name Central Dakota Nursing Home and changing to Ave Maria Village in 2008.
The change is being made to be more recognizable as a Catholic health care system, Lagodinski said. SMP Health is listed before Ave Maria in its official name to emphasize being part of a health care system. All of the North Dakota ministries in the SMP Health System will change their names on Oct. 1, Lagodinski said. SMP Health System will also change its name to SMP Health.
"Many people already refer to us as Ave Maria, so this will not be a drastic change," Lagodinski said. "Ave Maria is actually Latin that translates to 'Hail Mary,' which already expresses a very clear Catholic identity. It is a beautiful fit for our ministry and the loving care we provide. "
