Aaron Freije has accepted the promotion to captain effective in October at James River Correctional Center.

Freije was hired at JRCC as a temporary correctional officer I in November 2012. In March 2013, he was moved into an authorized position. Freije moved up the chain rapidly, became a correctional officer II in June 2013 and then to correctional officer III (sergeant) in December 2014.

Freije earned a spot on the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) in January 2015. In December 2015, he was promoted to lieutenant. During his years of service at JRCC, Freije received a Letter of Commendation for assisting an employee having a possible heart attack, a peer-to-peer award in October 2015 and A Modeling the Way Award for Leadership in May 2021.

Freije has been in charge of the visiting room and was instrumental in setting up visitation during COVID. He has shown he has the knowledge base for his latest promotion and is willing to take on new duties, JRCC said.
