There are a couple of secret ingredients that go in everything served at Babb's Coffee House in downtown Jamestown.
Babb's won Best Coffee Shop in the recent Best of the Jamestown Area voting. Babb's defeated Plantation Coffee Bar and Caribou Coffee for the honor.
"I always say we put love in every cup," said Barbara Onsurez, owner of Babb's Coffee House, "and all our goodies are homemade from scratch."
The goodies range from sandwiches, cookies, muffins, scones to "all kinds of desserts," Onsurez said.
Babb's Coffee House opened 14 years ago in the old James River National Bank building on the corner of 1st Avenue and 1st Street South in Jamestown. The decor of the business includes local art and memorabilia from other businesses in the region around a spacious and comfortable seating area.

Onsurez said the goal is to produce an atmosphere that attracts all types of customers.
"We see all kinds of people," she said. "Families with kids, business people for meetings, college kids to study. All types stop in and spend time with us."
The business also supports the community.
"Pink T-shirts in October and Movember for men's health in November," Onsurez said. "We love getting involved in the community."
Decor and community involvement are only part of the formula at Babb's Coffee House. The quality of the food and service is the most important.
"We get the coffee fresh roasted," Onsurez said. "That makes a big difference."
And it is served by a staff of baristas that are friendly and capable, she said.
"All of our success can be attributed to our wonderful staff," Onsurez said. "They are dedicated to our guests and wonderful service."

The coronavirus pandemic has made things more difficult but also provided Babb's Coffee House with an opportunity to expand some of its services.
Customers can now order online or through the Babb's Coffee House Online Ordering App. The food can be picked up in the coffee house or at the curb, delivered or consumed there, depending on the customer's preference.
By ordering online or through the app, customers intending to enjoy their coffee or food at the coffee house can avoid waiting for their order to be prepared.
"We want to thank the community for their support," Onsurez said. "Without them, we wouldn't be here."
