Andrew Berkey with Jamestown Area Ambulance recently received the 2022 North Dakota EMS Association’s Telecommunications Award.

Each year the North Dakota EMS Association recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the provision, development and improvement to local, regional and state prehospital care.

Berkey is the definition of going above and beyond in his role, the EMS Association said. He has taken the education program at Jamestown Area Ambulance and made many changes, which also benefit many small rural services as well.

Berkey gets to know his students and recruits excellent staff members to help him teach the EMT classes, which are offered four times each year, the EMS Association said. He makes trips to the area squads to provide monthly training as well.

The Association said Berkey wants to get to know the EMS providers in the area and makes sure he is available at any time for questions and concerns. If there is EMS training offered, Berkey will be there. He is always looking for ways to network and learn from others.
