Dr. Dawn Pet Stop wins Best Veterinary Clinic
For the seventh straight year, Dr. Dawn's Pet Stop won the Best Veterinary Clinic in the Best of the Jamestown Area. Dr. Dawn Entzminger, veterinarian at Dr. Dawn's Pet Stop, said the award is "pretty honorable," but it doesn't belong to just her.
"It's not just because of me, it's possible because of my staff," Entzminger said. "My name is on the building, but I am nothing without them."
Entzminger, a native of Cavalier, North Dakota, said she's been practicing in Jamestown for 21 years. Entzminger said she is "incredibly thankful" she is able to have a career that is directly tied to working with her favorite thing: animals.
"My mom once found a poster I made in third grade where I said I wanted to be a vet," Entzminger said. "I never really thought about being anything else."
Entzminger said she graduated from North Dakota State University before going on to attend veterinary school at Iowa State University in Ames.
She said her favorite part of the job is the variety of patients and procedures. Entzminger said she enjoys the challenge of not being able to communicate with patients and have them tell her what's wrong or where the pain is.
"I like the pets themselves, I'm kind of partial to them," Entzminger said. "I grew up on a farm ... I've always been naturally drawn to animals."
As for the Best of the Jamestown Area award, Entzminger said she "very much appreciates" the gesture and strives to provide the community with the best services.
"In order to be the best vet, we need to have the best clientele," Entzminger said. "And that's what this award is, it's the people of the community who vote."
Placing second in this category was Dr. Anna Stansbery at Southwood Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Barb Looysen at Country Acres Veterinary Clinic placed third.
