The Full Monte Salon and Spa was named Best Hair Salon in the Best of the Jamestown Area, and Ariel Cole, the owner of the business, was named Best Hair Stylist.

Placing second in the Best Hair Salon category was Vivacious Salon, and placing third was Etc Salon.

Placing second in the Best Hair Stylist category was Catie Ronan (Vivacious Salon), and placing third was Lynette Balvitsch (Etc).

Cole was excited to learn that the new business, Full Monte, and she had won the awards.

“I think it’s pretty amazing,” she said. “I feel blessed that people think of me that way.”

The Full Monte Salon and Spa opened about a year and half ago, she said. Previously, Cole, a licensed cosmetologist since 1988, had worked in Bismarck, then in the Twin Cities for about 14 years, she said, before returning to Jamestown around 2012 or 2013.

The Full Monte has five stylists, a permanent makeup artist, a masseuse and a person who does energy work, Cole said.

“Everyone here is a renter so we all work for ourselves,” she said. “I own the salon and I rent space to them.”

As to the reasons for the salon being voted Best Hair Salon, Cole noted that when people work independently such as at The Full Monte, they have a “decent clientele and you’re already followed. So people already like you, I guess.”

Cole noted the salon gives back to the community, such as the bison mural that was painted on the south side of the building.

“I feel like it’s such a crazy time right now with what’s going on in the world and we all just need to be better to each other,” Cole said. “I feel like giving is one way to do that.”

She would like to see more art brighten the downtown.

“And I’ve got a fund to raise more money towards putting more art downtown,” she said. She had T-shirts and bags made up with the mural and “every time one of those sells that money goes directly back into the fund.”

The shirts and bags are available at the Full Monte and at the Gift Shoppe at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, she said.

Cole said she wanted to thank her parents, Beth and Monte Cole, who own the building and made it possible for her business to open there. Monte Cole did extensive work on the building.

The Full Monte Salon and Spa is located at 213 1st Ave. North. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. but Cole said all who work there set their own schedule so the hours may be earlier or later. The salon is open on weekends only by appointment.
