The North Dakota Irrigation Association announced the availability of funding for irrigators through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This funding opportunity is available through the NRCS’ Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
Financial assistance is available for irrigators wishing to make changes to their irrigation system to decrease their water usage. Examples of eligible projects include improving efficiencies by converting from flood to pivot, installing variable rate irrigation on an existing low-pressure system or converting a high-pressure center pivot to a low-pressure system.
“As producers, we know how precious water is for our families and our operations”, said Loren DeWitz, North Dakota Irrigation Association president. “This EQIP funding is a great opportunity for North Dakota producers to upgrade their irrigation system to ensure the water for growing our crops is used as efficiently as possible.”
To apply, producers should contact their local NRCS office. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2021.
