Hugo's Family Marketplace wants people to know it is its employees that make the difference for its customers, according to Richard Hilgemann, store manager.
"What sets us apart is our associates and their attention to the customer," he said. "They try to make it the best shopping experience for those that come through our front door."
Hugo's took the top honors as Best Meat Department and Best Grocery Store and finished second in the Best Bakery competition in the recent Best of the Jamestown Area competition.
Hilgemann said 2020 has been a challenging year for essential businesses. In April, the store did a deep clean of the entire facility after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus. Through the pandemic, Hugo's took additional precautions to keep its staff and customers safe from the coronavirus.
"One of the main issues is the stock level on certain items," he said. "Sometimes, we can't get as many of some items as we would like."

Hugo's also instituted curbside pickup and delivery in an effort to offer options to people who did not want to come into the store. This also offers additional convenience for people who want to avoid taking the time to be in the store selecting their items.
The store also participates in community promotions and events.
"We try to be part of the events that promote the community and bring people to Jamestown," Hilgemann said. "Those things are good for the whole community."
While attention to detail and offering conveniences for the customer are important, it is the staff who always makes for a great customer experience and keeps people coming back, Hilgemann said.
"Our employees strive to be the best they can be," he said. "I think they get personal satisfaction in serving our customers. In seeing the smiles on everybody's face that they serve."
