Sgt. Michael Zell was chosen as employee of the month of January for the James River Correctional Center.
Zell was able to de-escalate a situation with a missed video visit on Christmas Day and another situation the next month, his supervisor said.
Recently, while on a break, he noticed a large amount of garbage that had blown into the fence line and picked it up.
Zell was chosen for the award for his teamwork, leadership and his contributions to the James River Correctional Center.
