Noridian Mutual Insurance Company, doing business as Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, has purchased MDdatacor Inc., a Georgia-based technology company that provides data-driven solutions for health care insurers and providers. MDdatacor has the ability to collect, store, manage and analyze patient medical information from the most comprehensive data sets available in the industry.

"The acquisition of MDdatacor represents another step in our ongoing strategy to collaborate and innovate to find local solutions that will sustain accessible, high-quality health care for all North Dakotans for years to come," said NMIC President and CEO Paul von Ebers.

NMIC brings medical management and technology expertise to MDdatacor, which will add value to its product offerings and facilitate long-term stability and growth, von Ebers said.

NMIC and MDdatacor began working together in 2008 on a pilot project that eventually became NMIC's MediQHome, a quality program based on patient-centered medical home principles that was launched by BCBSND in 2009. MDdatacor owns MDinsight, the primary technology platform that facilitates highly secure HIPAA-compliant information sharing among care providers participating in MediQHome.

"Combining innovative and adaptable technology with our deep understanding of the medical home approach allows NMIC to provide the health care industry with strong system integration capabilities and powerful solutions for care coordination," von Ebers said.
