Tom's Antiques opened its doors in early April of this year. Tom Brandau, owner was the owner/operator of the Antique Attic for two and a half years and owned a smaller shop prior to that.
Brandau's interest in antiques was piqued by collecting. He started by renting a couple of spaces in an antique mall and worked to own his own store. He said Jamestown needs its own antique store that people can frequent to find that special decorator piece, something unique for gift giving or to enhance their own collection(s). If he doesn't have it, they can add their name to a wish list and he will help his customers make the connection.
Tom's Antiques deals in a general line of antiques including: furniture, glassware, pottery, primitives, textiles and lots of collectibles. Brandau said he is always buying.
"I buy pottery of all kinds, glassware, old furniture, crocks, collectibles and anything old and interesting," he said. "Many times people don't know they have something of value and they sell it in a garage sale for a dollar when it can be worth so much more."
Brandau and his wife, Sue, have been married for 31 years and have lived in the Jamestown area for the past 24, during which time Tom has worked as a nurse but his interest in antiques has never waned.
