PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Usually it's Arapahoe Basin and Loveland ski areas vying to be the first Colorado ski areas to open for the season. This year, the state's winner is: Wolf Creek Ski Area.
The ski area in southern Colorado opened Saturday after recently getting three feet of new snow.
Loveland was the first Colorado resort to open last year on Oct. 24, with Arapahoe Basin starting its season a day later.
In Nevada, a ski resort about an hour from downtown Las Vegas also reported opening Saturday. Officials at the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort say they opened the slope with nine inches of natural snow and four inches of artificial snow. But the Nevada resort then closed after the weekend until Nov. 25, while Wolf Creek's website said it was open Monday and expects to operate next weekend as well, with additional days planned as the season continues.
