Life's Focus, an event for mature adults, is from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jamestown Civic Center. The event includes trade show booths, seminars and bingo. Tickets are $3 in advance and $4 at the door.

Around Town

Open Mic Night, hosted by local musician John Crowston, is from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Babbs Coffee House. The open session is available to anyone wanting to perform.

Author Dean Hulse is signing his book "Westhope: Life as a Former Farm Boy" at noon Saturday, May 9, at Great Stories Book Shoppe in Jamestown.

AQHA Ranch Sorting, Team Penning and Barrel Racing starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at the James River Rodeo Arena located at the fairgrounds, north entrance. There is no admission charge.

National Buffalo Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays by appointment. Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and AAA members, $10 for a family and $1 for children ages 6 to 18.

Alfred Dickey Public Li-brary hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sundays. To ac-cess the Story Line, call 252-7464.

Storytime is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Alfred Dickey Public Library. The theme is "Gardens."

The Barnes County Historical Museum, 315 Central Ave. N., Valley City, is open year round from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is a freewill donation.


The JFAA Annual Spring Art Show exhibit opens today and is on display until May 30 at the Jamestown Arts Center. A reception, with jurors' comments by Walter Peihl Jr., is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Arts Center.

Arts After Work, a program for adults to try different art experiences, is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the Arts Center. Monday it's Paper People, with William Hessian, May 11 it's Tricks of the Trade, taking care of art with Sally Jeppson, May 18 it's Mosaic Pots and June 1 it's The Art of the Herb, with Sally Jeppson. Exhibits "Eye Spy" and "North Dakota Mills and Elevators" are on display through Aug. 31 at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum in Valley City. There is no admission charge, but freewill donations are accepted.

Linda (Tesky) Elhard displays her oil paintings as Unison Bank's artist for May. Each month Unison features a different artist's work.
