The Anne Carlsen Center continued the tradition of the state's longest-running benefit golf tournament with the 28th annual installment of its benefit scramble.
A full slate of 136 people on 34 teams squared off throughout the early June morning, and into the afternoon, as squads in the scratch and handicap divisions began to distance themselves from the competition.
The foursome of Craig Kemmet, Tom Kenna, Cory Wahl and Doug Wahl -- sponsored by Spicer Trucking -- took first place in the scratch division with their score of 55. Meanwhile the quartet of Hank Telken, Tony Telken, Keith Hess and Todd Hess -- sponsored by Knights of Columbus -- fired a 53.7 for top honors in the handicap division.
Each year, money raised by the benefit tournament goes towards ensuring teens from the Anne Carlsen Center with disabilities take part in "ACC Week" at Elks Camp Grassick. This year's TechnoCamp (held from June 27 to July 2) will benefit from the $32,000 grossed by the tournament.
This year's camp will center on how certain kinds of assistive technology can help campers find their inner artist. Campers will have the opportunity to use different specialized tools that make artistic expression easier for a person of any ability.
