Applicants sought for cancer survivor scholarships

The American Cancer Society has announced the kickoff of its 2010/2011 Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program. The program gives young cancer survivors the opportunity to pursue their post-secondary education.

The American Cancer Society has announced the kickoff of its 2010/2011 Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program. The program gives young cancer survivors the opportunity to pursue their post-secondary education.

The program provides funds each academic year in increments of $2,500 per student, with a lifetime scholarship limit of $10,000.

To be eligible to apply for the scholarships, students must meet the following requirements:

* Be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21, and be 25 years old or younger at time they apply.

* Be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada or Utah.

* Accepted without condition to an accredited university, college, community college or vocational technical school.

* Have a GPA of 2.5 or above.

* Must be a full-time student at an accredited university, college, community college or vocational technical school in the upcoming academic year.

Application packets can be requested by calling the Great West Division Patient Service Center at 1-866-500-3272 or the National Cancer Information Center at 1-800-227-2345. The application deadline is Feb. 26, 2010.
