Dewald discusses center at Rotary

Beth Dewald, coordinator for the Freedom Resource Center in the Jamestown/Stutsman County area, discussed the purpose of the Freedom Resource Center at the recent Rotary meeting.
Freedom Resource Center works to assist people with disabilities remove barriers, gain skills and services, confidence and courage to lead lives of possibilities, Dewald said. The Resource Center serves with direct one-on-one guidance in setting and reaching goals, classes to foster personal growth toward greater independence, training in budgeting, meal planning, social interaction, driver’s test training and personal cares to help in living independently. Dewald also talked about the Money Follows the Person Program. This is a federal program that provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities. The program provides funding for one-time moving costs and arranges services and supports your need to move from a nursing home or an institution for people with developmental disabilities. Bill Kennedy spoke on adult education opportunities offered by Friends of the James River Valley Library System. “Writing Memoirs” with Dina Laskowski will be at 5 p.m. June 22, June 24 and July 1 in the lower-level conference room and the Alfred Dickey Library. These classes are free and will provide the “how to” in writing your personal story, Kennedy said.
Nick Schmidt welcomed everyone to the meeting, Warren Tobin gave the table blessing, Casey Stoudt led the group in singing, and Doug Frolich collected “Happy Dollars” for Rotary projects. Mark Sherfy and Rotarians were thanked for the All Star Soccer Tournament. The guests were Emily McKenzie, granddaughter of Rotarian Darrell Losing, and Rotarian Kevin Drvork of the Bismarck Rotary Club.
Vespers will be at 5:30 p.m. June 30 at Casey Stoudt’s lake home.
Evan Workin has today’s program, Holly Utke has the table prayer, Steve Looysen will lead the singing, and Tobin is the sergeant-at-arms.
