A variety of events for children to celebrate Halloween are planned next week in Jamestown.

Jamestown United Way will hold the second annual Nierling Fund Trick or Treat event from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at McElroy Park, 502 15th St. SE.

This is a drive-through-style trick-or-treating event. United Way volunteers will pass out treat bags in McElroy Park and there will also be family-friendly spookiness from the Buffalo City Scream Team.

This is a free event, made possible by the Nierling Fund. The fund honors the late Dr. Richard Nierling, who left money to United Way in order to provide community resources and activities for Jamestown children and families.

On Saturday, Oct. 30, two activities are slated. Boo Bash will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Two Rivers Activity Center. Games, family-friendly activities and door prizes are planned. Admission is free, but everyone is encouraged to bring a donation for the local food pantries. Costumes are welcome (no face coverings or weapons). The event will be held in the gymnasium so those attending are asked to wear appropriate and clean shoes.

On Sunday, Oct. 31, at least six events are planned.

  • 2nd Annual Elks Spookktacular will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Elks Club, 324 2nd Ave. SW. Candy will be given out.

  • Drive-through trick-or-treating will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Jamestown Rural Fire Department, 1209 9th St. SE. JRFD, Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown Ambulance, Jamestown Police Department, Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department, American Red Cross and National Guard will be handing out candy at this event.

  • Trick or treating is from 4 to 6 p.m. at Frontier Village. Groups, businesses, and individuals will be handing candy out at each building in the village. Wear your best warm costume, bring a bag to hold candy. The event runs until 6 p.m. or the candy runs out. People should park outside Frontier Village along Louis L’Amour Lane.

  • Trunk-or-Treat in the Victory Lutheran Church parking lot from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

  • Harvest Celebration (Disney theme) at Jamestown First Assembly is from 4 to 7 p.m. Games, prizes, food for the family.

  • Drive-through trick or treat at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1000 5th Ave. NE, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
