Dave Falk of the Jamestown Dollars for Scholars attended the eighth annual North Dakota Dollars for Scholars Conference held Oct. 3 in Bismarck.
Chapter representatives learned about volunteer recruitment, investments and fundraising. For attending the conference, the chapter will receive a $1,000 donation from the Bank of North Dakota.
North Dakota Dollars for Scholars has 70 community chapters in the state. Bank of North Dakota provides a state director and operational support for local chapters. Since the first chapter was established in Grand Forks in 1962, Dollars for Scholars chapters in North Dakota have raised $32.2 million and helped 25,096 students.
This year, the local chapter plans to distribute approximately $20,000 to local high school students and recent graduates attending college. Events such as the recent Applebee’s pancake fundraiser and the local business’ sponsorship of donations for Blue Jay touchdowns increase the funds available for students. Individuals and families may donate directly to the local chapter. You may do so by going to jamestown.dollarsforscholars.org or by mailing a check to Jamestown Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 269, Jamestown, ND 58402-0269.
Members of the Jamestown board are Falk, Tena Lawrence, Casey Henderson, Pat Nygaard, Dave Smette, Robert Lech, Sally Ost, Heidi Larson, Donna Schmitz, Casey Stoudt and Robert Toso.
