The Germans from Russia Heritage Society James Valley Chapter met at the Arts Center and watched a documentary of Ellis Island. Many of the members had family that immigrated through Ellis Island in New York.
The project for May is to clean Falk Park, which the chapter maintains.
Election of officers was held with the following officers elected: president, Betty Brosz; vice president, La-Vina Kleese; secretary/treasurer, Yvonne Wegner, and newly elected board members Alma Dewald and Erna Schwind. Lucille Kennedy, Paul Janke, Doreen Larson and Julie Wayne are continuing their tenure as board members. Shirley Nitschke is the outgoing board member.
The 44th annual Germans from Russia Heritage Society Convention is July 23-27 in Spokane, Wash. GRHS members were reminded to use the new magnetic signs to advertise the organization in parades. Leroy and Maggie Presler, new members from Gackle, plan to use the magnetic signs for their Fourth of July celebration. If anyone is interested in using these signs, call Brosz at 252-4582.
