Hager named state P.E.O. president

Kristy Hager, Chapter M, LaMoure, was elected president of the North Dakota State Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood during their 96th Convention of State Chapter held May 21-22 at Valley City (N.D.) State University.

Roberta Mohagen, Chapter Y, Fargo, outgoing president, presided over the convention.

Other state officers are: Judy McDan-iel, Chapter J, Wahpeton, first vice president; Mary Bormann, Chapter AA, Bismarck, second vice president; Mary Ann Soderberg, Chapter T, Grand Forks, organizer; Janis Bensch, Chapter K, Jamestown, treasurer; and Germaine Ueckert, Chapter C, Beach, secretary.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood is a women's organization which supports educational opportunities through loans, grants and scholarships. At this year's convention there were 21 North Dakota recipients of grants from the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education for a total of $24,700.

Emma McKirdy, Dickinson, and Sarah Tyre, Oakes, first and second-year students at Cottey College, Nevada MO, received $4,000 each from the Carrie B. Simpson Cottey College Scholarship fund. Cottey College was founded in 1884 and has been owned and supported by the P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1927.

Fourteen women received $13,200 from the Jane A Taylor Scholarship. This endowed scholarship is given to North Dakota women attending accredited colleges or universities in North Dakota. Awards are based on North Dakota residency, scholarship, character, school and community involvement.
