Sept. 18: 10 a.m., ready squad responded to 402 Second Ave. N.W., apartment complex, to investigate a fire alarm activation. Firefighters checked for smoke/fire; none was found. Cause: unattended cooking. Fire alarm was reset. Time out: 30 minutes.

Sept. 18: 8:54 p.m., fire department responded to 1040 Western Park Village, family dwelling, to a report of a fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire and investigated. Mostprobable cause: hot water heater malfunction. No firefighter injuries. Time out: 2 hours.
